How to get the gas motor to engage in 2012 Toyota Prius Hybrid

Question

Using an external remote start,  I have tried using firmware 79.09, 79.10, 79.11 without any luck.  Vehicle accesory engages amd stays on killing the battery.  Ready light does not come on with or without the smartkey in the vehicle.  have heater blowing on max, heated seats on, nothing works.  Hybrid option is on.  What else can we try?  I have tried three different evo's with no luck.

It doesnt even look like the car is even starting properly. Which model prius is this? Prius, Prius C, Prius V?

Is the unit in stand alone or with a remote starter?

Just a straight Prius.  All the wiring matches up to the install manual.

When remote start is engaged, red lght turns on on the bypass. Then yellow. Cluster turns on same as with smart key. Only thing missing seems to be the ready light.  Heater blows.

Lets work with 79.11.

You will want to master reset the EVO and reprogram it to the car.

Master resetting the EVO will also reset all the options to factory and you should not have to change any settings.

In the remote starter, make sure that the Hybrid setting is turned on.

A very easy test to see if the problem may be coming from the EVO or remote starter would be to activate Stand Alone and Hybrid in the EVO. Test remote starting by hitting 3x Lock or pulse a ground on the yellow/black wire of the EVO. You may need to remove the ground-while-running from the EVO for this test.

Hi rob.  Can u give be both case scenarios?  This vehicle is owned by a customer 2 hours away. She is going to bring it in one more time for us to fix. If we are unable to she wants the unit removed and wants her money refunded. We would like to have all options figured out.

If the stand alone method works, then it's the remote start unit. Any idea what would case something like that?  If in stand alone mode we still do not get a ready light what else would u suggest to try?  I appreciate all your help with this but this is not a vehicle that we can get for a span of one week. Any trial and error procedures and there results will have to all be performed on the one day she is willing to come in.

If the stand alone method works, then it's the remote start unit. Any idea what would cause something like that?

1- The EVO may not be receiving a Start signal properly or at all. I dont know if you are using datalink or not but make sure the Red/Blue wire of the EVO is receiving a (+)Start signal form the remote starter in either case. Test it to be sure.

2- I doubt this one but it may be a cause... There is no diode on the ignition wire and the remote starter is feeding ignition to the car.

3- I really doubt this one but.... Disconnect the (-)parking lights.

If in stand alone mode we still do not get a ready light what else would u suggest to try?

With 79.11 and master reset done on the EVO afterwards, this should not happen.

Besides for trying the unit in stand alone, a very easy test would be to ground the (-)ground-while-running and the jump 12V to the Red/Blue (+)Start input of the EVO for a few seconds.

If your client comes in during the week, I'd recommend calling tech support if nothing seems to be working out.

 

Here is the reset procedure in case you do not have it. Do it before and after flashing the 79.11 firmware.

1. Hold down programming button while plugging in datalink connector.
2. Let go of button when LED is RED.
3. Push and hold button again until all three LEDs start to alternate.
4. Disconnect unit, she is now reset.
